Worcestershire Contemporary Artists W-CA

Worcestershire Contemporary Artists is an artist-led initiative formed following an a-n Open Dialogues event in April 2008. Initial focus centred around notions of borders and boundaries, the provincial and rural in contemporary art. Members meet regularly and have organised several group exhibitions and including MECA 2009 (Malvern Exhibition of Contemporary Art) and The Worcester Open 2010
W-CA aims to:

Create opportunities and dialogue around contemporary art in Worcestershire. Establish a network for mutual support amongst local, UK and international artists. Increase exhibition opportunities in Worcestershire and beyond. Invite international artists to show and talk about their art in the region. Investigate the idea of provincial art and contemporary art in the rural setting. Build lasting relationships that contribute toward the profile of contemporary art in Worcestershire.

Kate asked me to work with her performance at 1, Howick Place last year that coincided with her exhibition at the Postbox Gallery. We decided a timelapse of the performance would an interesting way to capture her work flow within the space over the 7-day period.

Picturing the Future is a two phase model I have created using hoardings as focal point for direct creative consultation with the local and wider community.

The project is split into two phases to encourage protracted community engagement throughout the building process; in the the first phase: to generate excitement about the site and prospect of change and, in the second phase: to encourage community engagement and capture collective thought with and about with area and, from this information, to make visual representation of the community’s aspirations for the site at the time of change to encourage positive thought and reflection.

I am currently running the concept with a company building the new NHS health facility in Coventry City Centre. You can follow all the latest developments at www.curiousorwhat.com
